Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first flight.

Do I need any prior experience?

No — no prior experience is needed. Apex Adventures trains complete beginners from scratch, whether you're heading into Powered Paragliding, Paratrike or Powered Parachute. The program is phased so nobody is thrown in the deep end: you start with ground school and ground-handling (kiting) until the wing feels natural, then move into engine handling and power training, and only then progress to your first solo flight — around 25-30 hours of Ground and flight training and roughly 35 logged flights before your official SACAA National Pilot Licence is issued. If you already hold a paragliding qualification it's a bonus, since it can shorten the ground-handling phase, but it's not a requirement to get started.

Do I need to be super fit to fly?

Not at all. Reasonable general fitness helps, especially for foot-launching, but you don't need to be an athlete. We'll assess and guide you during your first sessions.

Is paramotoring or paragliding dangerous?

Like any adventure sport, there's inherent risk, but with proper SACAA-certified training, quality equipment, and sound decision-making around weather, the risk is well managed. Safety is built into every part of our training program.

How long does training take, start to finish?

It depends on the course and how often you can train, but most students complete their Intro Course over a few weekends, with full licensing taking longer depending on your pace and the South African NPL requirements.

What does training cost in total, including gear?

Costs vary depending on which course you choose and whether you're buying new or secondhand equipment. Get in touch and we'll walk you through the full breakdown for your situation.

I'm scared of heights — can I still do this?

Many of our students start out nervous about heights. Training is gradual and controlled, building your confidence step by step rather than throwing you in the deep end.

Where do you offer training?

We train at two locations: Gauteng and Stilbaai in the Western Cape. Check our Training page for details on each.
